Members of the Niagara Falls Peacemarkers, with guidance from members of the Buffalo Peacemarkers, held an event this past week at Gluck Park.

Speaking to the residents in attendance, Councilman Ezra P. Scott Jr. said that in light of the shooting and stabbing that occurred at Imperial Lounge on Niagara Avenue just a few weeks ago, it was important hold this event to let the community know that ”we [the community] are not looking forward to a long summer of violence.”

Scott also sites violence between individuals from Buffalo and Niagara Falls as part of the problem. As a result, both groups are hopeful that by partnering with one another progress can be made towards a more safer community for both the City of Niagara Falls and the City of Buffalo.

“This is the first of many events planned. These events serve as an opportunity to build key relationships with members of the community. No one group or person can put a stop to the violence,” said Scott.

Members of the Niagara Falls Peacemarkers hope to be facilitators of that dialogue.
