Genesee Community College offers free-admittance seminar: Picking the US President; Meant to Explain Caucuses and Primaries

BATAVIA, NY – Genesee Community College will host a free seminar: “Picking the United States President, Making Sense of the Caucuses and Primaries” to explain the process of nominating a candidate for president.

Questions such as “What is the difference between a caucus and a primary?” “Why is it important?” “How long will it take for each party to choose its nominee?” will be addressed by GCC Associate Professor Derek Maxfield,  at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9 – the day of the New Hampshire Primary.

This presentation will be held in T102 of the Conable Technology Building and is FREE and open to the public.

The presentation will feature a discussion of how nominees accumulate delegates, the role of the media in the nominating process, and what happens if no one has enough delegates to claim the nomination before the party conventions this summer.

The first official nominating contest for the president of the USA will be the Iowa Caucuses on February 1, 2016 followed by the New Hampshire Primary on February 9, 2016.
